Like many people in America these days, I was the victim of a large reduction in force at my company. I’d been there for fifteen years, but unfortunately things like tenure and seniority didn’t factor much in to the lay-off selections. There is this guy at the school I work for who is our head custodian. Everyone who works there just loves him to death. We call him our work husband because he comes and helps us with anything we need. The main difference between him and our real husbands is that we only have to ask him once to do something. That is part of what makes him so awesome. Recently we had a four day weekend off from school. He told me he was going to his mom’s house in the Bronx to visit her over the weekend. Apparently she is a really good cook. He is always telling me all these awesome foods that she cooks for him when he goes home. One of his favorites is pineapple upside cake. Now I am not a fan of that kind of cake, but to hear him talk about it makes me want to eat a piece.
